--> State of the Art Facilities
--> Cardiac Operating Rooms
The
Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute's surgeons work in state-of-the
art operating rooms designed and equipped for cardiothoracic surgery.
Two central components of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Suite are the heart-lung machine and cardiac anesthesia machine high-tech equipment for managing patients during surgery. The rooms are also equipped with special monitoring systems configured so all information captured during a surgical procedure including physiologic monitoring, and video from the overhead light-mounted camera and the surgeon's headlight-mounted cameras can be shown on any of the five displays in each room. Dedicated trans-esophageal echocardiographic information is stored in both magnetic and optical formats, and plans are underway to allow real-time, secure promulgation of video, echo, and physiologic information to remote locations.
CMHVI's spacious, well-lit and superbly equipped cardiothoracic
operating rooms offer the most modern and sophisticated environment
available for cardiac and thoracic surgery. Furthermore, these "smart
ORs" are outfitted with special cabling, data connections, light
booms, and display screens that can be upgraded to accommodate emerging
technologies, including voice recognition and robotics.
