CMMC's Chest Pain Center features a special suite where those experiencing chest pain can undergo diagnostic testing while being monitored by emergency care providers. The suite's two specially-equipped patient care rooms provide a setting where physicians can greatly reduce the time needed to determine the cause of a patient's chest pain.

If a patient's condition warrants emergency treatment, the care team initiates a rapid response to the individual's physical and emotional needs. Once the patient's condition is stable, the emergency physician may consult with one or more cardiologists for possible follow-up. Throughout the evaluation and treatment process, the staff communicates with the patient and family about what is occurring.

An important advantage offered by the CMMC Chest Pain Center is its connection with the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute. If diagnostic exams indicate that a Chest Pain Center patient requires immediate intervention, CMHVI physicians can perform an emergency angioplasty procedure to restore blood flow to the heart. Studies have shown that emergency angioplasties are more successful if performed in a facility such as CMHVI where open-heart surgery is also an option.
