Coping with the change:

  • Talk about what has happened. Sharing events and feelings of loss and anger are a normal part of healing.

  • Be flexible. As you recover, you may have some changes in you daily routines. Talk to your family about the changes you need to make.

  • Take time out from your illness. Do something you enjoy: read a book, work on a hobby, get out of the house or visit with friends. These activities will help lessen feelings of sadness and loss.

  • Join a cardiac rehab program. Rehab staff members can provide you with the facts and support you may need.

  • Healing your body, mind and spirit takes time. Don't expect too much of yourself right away. Set realistic goals.
