Recovery from a cardiac event such as a heart attack or cardiac surgery is a high-individualized process. The simple fact is, depending on a number of factors, some people recover quicker and more fully than others.

Care providers at the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute essentially see recovery as a two-part process. The first part of a patient’s recovery usually takes place while the individual is an inpatient at CMHVI. During this phase of recovery, CMHVI clinicians closely follow a patient’s progress. The second part of the recovery process takes place after the patient is discharged and returns home. It is in the post-discharge period that education focusing on lifestyle changes can be very important to the patient’s long-term health.
