The heart has two sides: the right and the left side. The right side of your heart pumps blood to the lungs where it picks up oxygen and leaves carbon dioxide, which is then exhaled. Blood then returns to the left side of the heart. The left side of the heart is very muscular, pumping blood out through the aorta to all areas of the body.
