The Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute's Prevention and Outreach service is designed to introduce individuals to the concept of good "heart health." But as importantly, the service also seeks to identify those who might be at risk for developing cardiovascular disease.
CMHVI's primary prevention activities are designed to help people adopt a "heart healthy" lifestyle. A secondary prevention program assists those who have suffered a heart attack in reducing their chances of having another.
Through the Women's HeartAdvantage program, CMHVI seeks to educate women and their physicians about the particular needs of women who may be experiencing symptoms of heart disease.
The CMHVI Wellness Van delivers cardiac prevention and screening services to area communities. Visitors to the van can participate in health assessments and talk with a cardiac health professional.
